An integral part of the Strategic Centre, the Strategy Directorate sits at the heart of the Agency.

Comprising of the National Assessment Centre (NAC), Strategy, Strategic Planning and Communications, Strategy Directorate plays a pivotal role in setting strategic priorities and enabling strategic investment decisions; delivering NCA strategy and policy; evaluating performance and impact; planning and communicating both internally and externally.

Business Areas

Strategy & Assessments

Strategy & Assessments comprises of the following teams: DG Private Office, Governance and Recognition & Award, Future Strategy, National Assessments Centre, NCA Secretariat, Strategy Implementation Unit and Strategy Business Management Team.

The work of our teams is varied and includes:

  • Advice and support to Senior Civil Servants (DG’s/Directors and Deputy Directors) to enable them to run the Agency effectively.
  • Lead the development of the Agency 5-year strategy, including the production of sub-strategies in areas such as system leadership, capabilities and internationalising the Agency.
  • Measure the delivery of the Agency strategy, reporting progress to the Agency Board.
  • Provide intelligence products and subject matter expertise across HMG and the SOC system; informing policy and strategy, driving operational response and directing business planning.
  • Recognition of Officer excellence and achievements through a range of national and Agency-level awards.
  • Providing vital professional expertise to all Strategy teams on a broad range of areas including workforce planning, finance and commercial, information management and learning and development.

Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning comprises of the following teams: Enterprise Design Authority – Business, Investment Management Office, Performance, Assurance & Risk and Spending Review.

The work of our teams is varied and includes:

  • Ensure investment and change decisions are strategically aligned.
  • Manage the pipeline of strategic investment choices, defining and commissioning initiatives that support delivery of the Agency’s strategy.
  • Coordinate the Agency’s Spending Review 2025 Bid.
  • Analyse and report on the effectiveness/impact of the Agency and the wider national response to tackling serious organized crime.
  • Manage Enterprise Risk Management processes in support of planning and preparation for external inspection and audit.

Communications

Communications comprises of the following teams: Strategic Communications, Internal Communications, Digital Communications and Media.

The work of our teams is varied and includes:

  • Commissioning targeted audience research, developing, implementing, and evaluating marketing strategies for awareness raising or behavior change.
  • Managing the Agency relationship with media outlets and journalists, issuing media releases and statements as well as interviews with Agency spokespersons.
  • Lead communication with NCA Officers via a range of internal channels.
  • Lead a range of projects, channels and events to increase leadership visibility and boost Officer engagement.
