Our people

Our people are our greatest asset in the fight against serious and organised crime. Every day our officers are making a difference.

There's no such thing as a typical NCA officer. Whatever their background or role, every NCA officer is making a difference. We are proud to protect.

Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Application Guidance

Expired

Read our application guidance for the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) and it's equivalent experience requirements.

Within the NCA there are four roles under the Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP), that the NCA currently have as certificated roles aligned to specified End Point Assessment (EPA) criteria. These are formed from the core College of Policing assessment criteria and some additional bolt-on EPA criteria have been included that are specific to NCA activity.

The roles that the NCA have currently certificated are:

  • IPP - Intelligence Officer (IO)
  • IPP - Intelligence Supervisor (IS)
  • IPP - Intelligence Analyst (IA)
  • IPP - Senior Intelligence Analyst (SIA)

The NCA recognises IPP certifications for specified roles that have been awarded by other Police Forces and Government Departments. Each department will have the core College of Policing assessment criteria, and like the NCA, may have additional bolt-on assessment criteria relevant to their role and area of activity. It is recognised across the intelligence community that IPP may have been rolled out for some agencies/forces at different stages or have yet to be rolled in some cases.

IPP IO/IS/IA/SIA -

If you are looking to join the NCA under an ‘experienced officer campaign’ for a specific IPP aligned role, that you already hold IPP certification for, this will be acknowledge by the NCA.

If successful there will be an expectation for you to be assessed against and complete any additional bolt-on NCA IPP criteria for the IPP role you are appointed to. This is to ensure you are operationally competent and remain current, up to date and upskilled in any new areas required for your NCA IPP role.

As per the College requirement for all certifications, you are expected to maintain your certification by keeping a yearly Continued Professional Development (CPD) record. Once IPP certification is awarded for a specified role, it lasts for 3 years and you will be expected to maintain your CPD record throughout. The CPD record will form part of the renewal process as necessary. Your certification and any supporting CPD record can be requested upon joining the NCA.

IPP IO/IS -

If you are looking to join the NCA under an ‘experienced officer campaign’ for an IPP aligned IO/IS role and you do not hold IPP certification, you need to demonstrate you hold equivalent experience, having performed the relevant role either previously or currently, as detailed in the personal specifications section of the advert.

You will need to clearly demonstrate evidence towards the specified technical criteria/behaviours against the role you are applying for as part of the application process. There are clearly defined headings under the core criteria for each IPP role that are released within the Candidate Information Pack and these are provided within the adverts for the ‘experienced officer campaign’.

If applying under the equivalent experience route, this will be subject to assessment by OSCAU. Depending on the role/grade this will be an Intelligence Assessment for candidates who pass the sift and interview process but do not already hold IPP certification. If successful, you will be required to complete a full IPP Portfolio for assessment towards the necessary criteria for your role.

IPP IA/SIA -

If you are looking to join the NCA under an ‘experienced officer campaign’ for an IPP aligned IA/SIA role and you do not hold IPP certification, you need to demonstrate you hold equivalent experience having performed the relevant role, either previously or currently, as detailed in the personal specifications section of the advert. You will also have completed formal Intelligence analysis training, for example: NIAT / GIAT / DIAM / NAP / NCA Analyst Foundation 1 / Intelligence Analyst (level 4) Apprenticeship.

You will need to clearly demonstrate your evidence towards the specified technical criteria/behaviours against the role you are applying for as part of the application process. There are clearly defined headings under the core criteria for each IPP role that are released within the Candidate Information Pack and these are provided within the adverts for the ‘experienced officer campaign’.

If successful you will be required to complete a full IPP Portfolio for assessment towards the necessary criteria for your role. Your certification for your formal Intelligence analysis training can be requested upon joining the NCA.
