NCA social media house rules

These guidelines are in place to help create a safe environment for the public on all social media channels run by the National Crime Agency.

NCA social media house rules

Expired

The NCA’s social media channels are a place where people can hear news from the NCA. We want you to be able to join in with our online community and we want this to be a forum where everyone feels welcome. Please take a look at our house rules below.

Whilst the NCA strives to moderate offensive comments, we also rely on our followers to help us do this by reporting any inappropriate comments or content to the social media platofrms directly.

The NCA reserves the right to delete any post breaking our House Rules.

  1. Any posts which are rude, threatening, offensive (ie racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, obscene, inflammatory) or contain a link to offensive material will be deleted. It is for this reason we have disabled comments on posts relating to child sexual abuse offences as these posts typically generate a high number of comments that breach this rule.

  2. Keep it legal. Remember everything you say on here is public. You are legally responsible for what you say and post on our social media channels. Don't post anything that is defamatory; fraudulent, deceptive or misleading; in violation of copyright/someone else's intellectual property; at risk of causing serious prejudice to a trial; or in violation of any other laws or regulations. Your views are solely your own and not those of the NCA. The NCA does not endorse any opinions on our social media channels other than its own.

  3. Stick to the topic. If we think you're trying to dominate our social media channels with your own agenda, we may delete your post. If you keep trying to do this, we may ban you from the channel. Same applies to spam and spammers.

  4. Do not report crime. This page isn't monitored 24-hours a day. In an emergency, dial 999. To report non-urgent crime, call 101.

  5. Don't post personal details. Don’t ever include any personal or sensitive information in a post, like phone numbers or email addresses: you could be putting yourself or others at risk. If you have sensitive information for police, please call 101. In an emergency always call 999.

  6. Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated on our social media channels.

  7. If you wish to make a complaint, please visit: www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/contact-us/complaints. Please do not use our social media channels to make complaints.
