A young couple from Merseyside have been charged with smuggling cannabis from Thailand, following a National Crime Agency investigation.

Craig Richard Bakker and Marnie Maxwell, both 24, were arrested on Wednesday at Heathrow Airport.

Their luggage contained 45kg of the Class B drug worth around £450,000 which they are accused of smuggling to the UK.

Bakker, of no fixed abode, and Maxwell, of Hillary Drive, Crosby, Merseyside, appeared yesterday (Thursday) and were remanded at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court.

They will next appear at Isleworth Crown Court on a date to be fixed.
